PERSONALPROFILE

I can’t imagine doing anything other than graphic design in some form or another. Whether

it has been for a large corporate organization, privately owned business, small company or

college, design is what I’ve done and its who I am.

My strengths lie in an obscure combination of being successful in both left- and rightbrained

demands. As a designer, I create, communicate and bring to life the objectives of

a creative brief. As a director, I’ve needed to understand budgets, organizational duties and

staff personalities. Brought together, it has presented some very interesting challenges that

have helped to shape my career, and have allowed me to grow and thrive as a designer and

creative director.

CAREERHISTORY

Valeant Pharmaceuticals Aliso Viejo, CA — May 2008 to February 2011

Marketing Creative Manager, U.S. Cosmeceuticals

Working exclusively with the marketing group for Kinerase, a prestige skincare line, I worked

closely with the marketing group to help them to achieve their goals of communicating the

look, feel and messaging for Kinerase. The work began as collateral in the form of product

brochures and posters, email efforts and promotions and support in the redesign of the

website. It then evolved into exclusive kits, creating packaging for retail partners Sephora,

Ulta and Nordstrom. Following the success of these efforts, the entire packaging lines

for Kinerase retail and the physician-exclusive channel were brought in-house. I became

responsible for over 60 skus. Along with the packaging, I became instrumental in marketing

strategies for the line, working more closely with marketing and retail to satisfy the demands

of all promotions at a national level. For retail this included all in-store materials including

advertisements, shelf strips, end-cap displays and educational materials and assets.

With this success for Kinerase as an in-house entity at Valeant, I was then asked to manage

all packaging and marketing materials for Kinerase Canada. All materials created were to

include the English and French translations, and needed to remain true to the line and its

direction for the campaign. I worked with a translator and Health Canada to assure proper

guidelines were followed for OTC products distributed throughout Canadian outlets.

In 2009, Valeant acquired Hissyfit, a cosmetic brand which included 4 skus. I was once

again asked to take on marketing materials and the packaging line. The goal was to grow

this brand, which had now acquired the partnership of a makeup artist who had been

working with Oprah Winfrey for the past 25 years. Their vision was to create a unique line

of products through exclusive channels. During this time. I have worked closely with the

Hissyfit marketing group on product launches, marketing collateral and packaging. The line

has been expanded to currently distribute 11 skus, and has premiered on QVC.

The Kinerase brand continues to expand as it prepares to launch a new line, which I have

worked closely on. This includes a new look for its line of packaging, as well as all marketing

collateral for mass retail. This would include advertising, in-store display and promotions.

In support of all four lines, I work with vendors ranging from photographers and printers,

to website management and fulfillment. I maintain asset libraries for all lines, and contract

agencies and freelance support whenever necessary. I have been awarded 3 national design

awards in both marketing collateral and packaging while in my current position.

Continuing Medical Education [CME], Inc. Irvine, CA — 2003 to May 2008

Creative Director

The creative department at CME was an in-house department of 10 designers and

production coordinators which I managed. We worked toward servicing the marketing

department in their mission of bringing medical education to the health care professional.

We were responsible for creating meeting invitations, trade ads, brochures, syllabi, posters

and signs, meeting premiums, educational CDs and websites for Symposiums and regional

Congresses.

In managing the staff, I functioned as the Director to facilitate performance appraisals,

training, distribution of work load including maintenance of the production schedule and

finally, art direction. I worked closely with two art directors to effectively serve the print and

web areas for the company’s clients, and with two production coordinators to deliver the

finished goods.

I developed a creative brief for the sales team and external clients; implemented a project

tracking system for all jobs; regenerated company branding by redesigning all corporate

logos; and created a style guide for consistency in company branding. One of the larger tasks

was the redesign of the company’s website, which included art direction, site navigation,

team development and web marketing to reposition the website as a leader in health care

education.

Budgetary responsibilities included department assets, resources and tools, contractors,

freelance designers, functions and liabilities, and payroll records.

A partial list of clients that I worked with included AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb

Company, Forest Laboratories, Inc., Janssen, L.P., Eli Lilly and Company, Pfizer

Incorporated, sanofi-aventis, U.S., Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
